Robert P. Heaney, M.D.

Dr. Robert Heaney is a clinical endocrinologist specializing in nutrition. Until 2014 he held the John A. Creighton University Professorship. He is world-renowned for providing nearly 50 years of advancements in our understanding of bone biology, osteoporosis, and human calcium and vitamin D physiology.


He is the author of three books and has published over 500 original papers, chapters, monographs, and reviews in scientific and educational fields. He has received numerous honors and awards. In 1990, he was awarded honorary membership in The American Dietetic Association, and in 1993 he was elected Fellow of the American College of Nutrition, both in recognition of his work in delineating human calcium absorptive performance and in defining human calcium requirements.


Dr. Heaney presented at the 2014 Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics the session: Sodium Intake Recommendations and Controversies.
