Exploring the Benefits of Increased Protein Consumption: to Improve Health Outcomes

This webinar will help the viewer identify the effects of increased dietary protein to improve appetite control, weight management, fitness/performance, and other health outcomes—discussing meal-specific quantities to maximize these effects; understand the significance of protein distribution (i.e., timing of consumption), particularly at breakfast; and translate protein research into practical dietary guidance regarding 'how much', 'what type', and 'when' to consume protein-rich foods within the diet.

Bio

Heather J. Leidy, PhD

Dr. Leidy is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Nutrition and Exercise Physiology at the University of Missouri. She completed her MS and PhD in Physiology at Penn State University and a Post-doctoral fellowship in the Department of Foods & Nutrition and the Ingestive Behavior Research Center at Purdue University. As a nutritional physiologist, Dr. Leidy explores the benefits of protein quantity, quality, and timing of consumption on appetite control satiety, and weight management across the lifespan. Her most recent works examines the negative impact of skipping breakfast and the benefits of consuming a high-protein breakfast on appetite, satiety, and unhealthy snacking in young people. Dr. Leidy has over 60 original research publications and has given over 100 research talks in this area. Her funding has included both industry support and NIH.
