This webinar describes the current role of nutrition communication within the context of individual eating behavior; explains how our understanding of the role of communication in changing eating behavior is evolving; and identifies opportunities to improve the effectiveness of communication to influence individual behavior to improve eating behaviors.

Jeanne P. Goldberg, PhD
Jeanne Goldberg, professor of nutrition, is Founding Director of the Graduate Program in Nutrition Communication at the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy at Tufts University.
Dr. Goldberg has worked on obesity and chronic disease prevention interventions since 1995 when she was principal investigator on a school-based intervention in Independence, Missouri and co-investigator on Sisters Together: Move More, Eat Better, an obesity prevention campaign for African American women. She was co-investigator on the Bones Project to prevent osteoporosis through early intervention, Shape Up Somerville, a CDC-funded obesity prevention program for elementary school children and their families, and on a replication of that project. In 2007-2008 she was principal investigator on Tipping the Scales, a project designed to understand childhood obesity prevention in Maine, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire. She was principal investigator on the study that led to the selection of the USDA/DHHS Food Guide Pyramid in 1992.
Dr. Goldberg directed the Tufts University Nutrition Navigator web site, the first on-line guide to accurate nutrition and fitness information on the Internet. Recently she has worked on an evaluation-based Internet project to teach nutrition and fitness curriculum to teachers.
Dr. Goldberg served on the Institute of Medicine Committee on the Use of Dietary Reference Intakes in Nutrition Labeling, the USDA Healthy Eating Index Advisory Committee, and the FDA Food Advisory Committee. In 2001, she was national co-chair of the Summit on Healthy Eating and Active Living.
For over 20 years she wrote a bi-weekly newspaper column on nutrition that was nationally syndicated by the Washington Post Writer's Group. She also co-authored Dr. Jean Mayer's Diet and Nutrition Guide. In her role as a scientist, she has been featured in numerous media outlets.
Dr. Goldberg earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Simmons College and her M.Ed.and Ph.D. from Tufts University.
